What is PFC-Free and Why It Matters

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), such as PFOS and PFOA, are chemicals commonly used in textiles, carpets, and paper to provide water- and oil-repellent properties. They prevent liquids and dirt from penetrating fabrics, keeping materials clean and stain-resistant.

However, the physical benefits of PFCs come at a high environmental and health cost.

PFCs are highly persistent they do not break down easily and can remain in the environment for years, contaminating water, snow, and ice worldwide. They can accumulate in the human body, affecting the liver, hormones, reproductive system, and may even contribute to cancer and chronic illnesses, especially in children.

Recognizing these risks, the European Union restricted the production and use of PFOS under Directive 2006/122/EC to reduce environmental and health impacts. Today, consumers can identify safer textiles by looking for labels such as:

PFC-Free | PFOA-Free | PFOS-Free | PFHS-Free

At Chun Woven, the water-repellent fibers used in our products are PFC-free, manufactured under European standards, and approved for use across Europe. These fibers are the same high-quality materials used by leading global sports shoe brands, ensuring that Chun Woven products are safe, environmentally friendly, and durable.
